Two girls disappear. Police recruit Paul Chartier joins a secret unit that tracks a sex offender. After the operation falters, Chartier pursues the perpetrators independently, disillusioned by legal constraints.. Features Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922). I know it should be called "if you can" … and I think that would have worked too… but I decided to go with it… still no pun intended. The film is based on a true story – and I have no idea what happened in the 90s… and from what I understand this requires a lot of creative license… who did what to whom… who survived and who didn’t… and I assume the main character (police/gendarmerie) is an amalgamation of several characters into one – I could obviously be wrong, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. , the movie may be long (2.5 hours), but it never feels that way. Well, maybe during the wedding stuff at the beginning… been there, done that and I know that. Greeks party the same – as Italians… is this necessary for the story? I would argue that it is not… but maybe I am missing something. The thrilling part is very well done… you feel with the main character… many things go wrong… he has the right eye, he has the right «nose»; … but will he manage to convince others of it? A lot of departments working almost against each other… this is well told and acted… still for me there is a missing x-factor for this to get over the top… how much praise it has received… and as good as it is… the final push is missing… a little more charisma maybe… more tension throughout… and so on.
