A vivid journey through the life of Pharrell Williams, told through the lens of LEGO animation. Animal Logic, who animated the previous four Lego movies, did not return to do the animation for the film because it would be seen as a rip-off of Warner Bros., even though Lego and Warner Bros. both share the rights to the original franchise. Instead, the animation was created at Pure Imagination Studios in Los Angeles and Zebu Animation Studios in India. Both Pure Imagination and Zebu have previously recreated the style of the original film series through theme park attractions, PSAs, and the Simpsons episode «Brick Like Me» (2014) (1989). But you have to ask yourself: who is this made for? Because being a kids’ movie is boring, and most adults wouldn’t watch this movie because they’d think it’s a kids’ movie. I watched it myself last night and was pretty bored. This Lego biopic was the only thing that saved this movie, otherwise no one but Pharrell Williams superfans would care. Also, I don’t know how the Focus houses have held up all year. They’re the only movie company that has had the theater consistently empty every time I’ve been there, even though there were only five people apiece. At two other films I saw in focus this year, the auditorium was completely empty and I was the only person in the auditorium, which is very rare for me to be alone in a theater.
